In addition to the BIS mandatory registration requirement for color TV sets in India, color TV sets must also meet the energy efficiency rating standard from May 26, 2016, in accordance with statutory regulation 1897 (E)/2016.
The standard includes a 1920 *1080 pixel resolution cathode ray tube color TV (CRT), a cold cathode fluorescent lamp backlight liquid crystal color TV (LCD), a plasma color TV (plasma), and a light emitting diode backlight liquid crystal display color TV (LED), but excludes computer displays.
All the above color TV sets manufactured or purchased or sold in India must:
(a) meet the India standard: IS 616:2010 - color TV safety requirements.
(b) meet the requirements of standby power consumption for color TV set in the following table:
By default, the brightness of the picture mode (home mode) should be greater than or equal to 65% of the peak brightness under the brightest optional default picture mode (factory or retail picture mode).
Color TV sets need to be labeled with energy efficiency labels (see figure below). The grade labels one star as the lowest grade, five stars as the highest grade, and color TV sets should be rated from one star to five stars based on their corresponding annual energy consumption.
